One of the foundations of Topaz Preparatory Academy, and leadership as a whole, is community service. As a Parent Choice School, Topaz Preparatory Academy requires parents, students, and teachers to give back to the community by performing some type of community service.
Parents, students, and teachers are required to perform 20 hours of community service throughout the school year. Community service at school can be as simple as volunteering in the classroom, attending PTC meetings, or driving your neighbor’s children to school. Opportunities outside of school include, but are not limited to: coaching sports, donating clothing, or helping out a sick neighbor.
Community Service logs can be found in the back of the Parent/Student Handbook and need to be completed by the end of the school year. Extra copies are available in the office.
Parent volunteers are always welcome at Topaz, as the key to student success is a strong homeschool connection. Topaz is a busy place and there are many opportunities available for volunteers to support the important business of learning. Please contact your child’s teacher or the office for more information on how to become more involved.
In order to keep our students, staff, and visitors safe, the district requires a completed Volunteer Form from all volunteers before they may help on campus or chaperone a field trip. The completed form is to be turned into the school office. Please plan ahead because it could take up to 2 months to get school board approval. Volunteer Forms are to be completed every school year. When arriving at school to volunteer you will need to sign-in at the office and get a visitor’s badge. This will help keep our school safe and allow us to contact you in case of an emergency. Also, it is important that you sign out when leaving campus. To ensure the safety of our children, it is important for us to know how many people (students, staff, and visitors) are on campus at all times.

English Language Learning Advisory Council (ELAC)
ELLAC meetings are designed to address the needs of English Language Learners and their families - students and parents alike. A variety of topics are addressed, such as report cards, curriculum, and school programs. Topaz site ELAC meetings are held in October, December, February, and April. Watch for information regarding these meetings. District DELAC meetings are held the months of September, November, January and March on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Multilingual Services Building at the HUSD Administration & Educational Support Center on Main Street. Childcare is available.
School Site Council (SSC)
School Site Council is made up of parents, certificated and classified employees, community members and administrators. GATE, Title I, and Bilingual Parents are in integral part of School Site Council. Elections are held every year to elect new representatives to serve. If you wish to join the council please send in your name to be added to the ballot. It is the business of the council to advise and help develop the Single Plan for Student Achievement, as well as monitoring the site categorical budgets. The SSC meets at 4:30 on the third Tuesday of each month.
Parent Teacher Club (PTC)
The PTC sponsors Disaster Preparedness, Field Trips, Assemblies and much, much more for all students at Topaz! The PTC coordinates fundraisers, book fairs and special events. PTC meetings are held at 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. The PTC always has many opportunities for involvement. Come on out and get involved!
